Listen: Thanksgiving

Count your blessings one by one
Don’t forget the things he’s done
Daily reminders of things we know
Never forgetting the love he’s shown

But we’re surrounded by chaos and clanging noise
How can we remember when we can’t reflect?
Moment to moment, hour to hour, sound without pause
In our ears, before our eyes, it may be truth, it may be lies

So we forget, even when we remember
Thanksgiving arrives and passes in to December
Bellies full, and vacations enjoyed
But we’ve never stopped to silence the noise

What are you thankful for?
Is it life, it is health, is it something more?
When you stop to consider, the lives we lead,
There’s a deep truth that we have what we need.

In every moment and circumstance,
Whatever the verdict, the plan, the chance,
The ancient command rings loud and rings true
Give thanks in all circumstances, and thus we must do

Not because every moment is pleasant
Not because the pain we can’t feel
But because we have a Father in heaven,
Who numbers our days, and his love is real

When you see this truth and your life in its light
Everything you hold dear, the cheery and bright
All that you wish wasn’t bear, which gives you fright
Every experience which comes your way
Becomes an opportunity to lookup and say
Thanks be to the one who brought me here
Who leads me in hope, who calms my fear
Who provides for my needs, and weeds out my sins
Who brings me peace, and teaches me to hope in him
We give thanks in birth, in life, and in death
For every step we take on the path of life
Molds us into the pattern of our Christ
He was born, he lived, he suffered, he died,
So that when he rose, we could share in life.
